Dr. Wolfram Weimer, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, has been the patron of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie since 2025 - succeeding Claudia Roth, Monika Grütters, and Bernd Neumann in this role.

The Board of Trustees of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie was founded in 2001. Credit National Symphony Youth Orchestra
In 2025, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie entered into a partnership with the youth orchestra of the National Symphony Orchestra Taiwan (NSO). Founded in 2022, the National Symphony Youth Orchestra (NSYO) regularly brings together young musicians in Taiwan and goes on international tours with renowned soloists.
The orchestra is led by Jun Märkl, principal conductor of the NSO. He has a special connection to the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie - he was a member of the orchestra as a pianist from 1980 to 1984.
As part of an annual exchange, members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie participate in an NSYO project in Taiwan - and musicians from the NSYO tour Europe with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.
Our collaboration is based on a shared conviction: top young musicians need support as they make their way into the international concert scene. To this end, the partnership creates opportunities for intercultural exchange, fosters the musicians’ personal and artistic development, and strengthens a network of young talent within the global music scene.

The Forum Dirigieren and the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie are united by their commitment to supporting top-tier young musical talent and collaborating with outstanding partners in Germany and beyond. In at least two projects per year, one scholarship recipient from the Forum Dirigieren is involved as an assistant and works closely with the orchestra and world-class conductors during full orchestra rehearsals, tutti rehearsals, and on tour.
Sound Port Frankfurt - Workshop for Music and Experiment
Based in Frankfurt, the Ensemble Modern, the International Ensemble Modern Academy, and the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie have been shaping the field of contemporary music practice in Germany and internationally for decades. With “Sound Port Frankfurt – Workshop for Music and Experiment,” the three organizations are launching a new and comprehensive collaboration, ensuring greater visibility in Frankfurt’s Ostend district and far beyond. On Schwedlerstrasse, the three organizations are pooling their expertise to further develop their shared location—both in terms of content and space—with a profile that is unique worldwide and multifaceted. Collaborations and partnerships with local institutions as well as with partner institutions in Germany and abroad play a key role in this endeavor.
FREO – Freie Ensembles und Orchester in Deutschland e.V.
Based on its operating model and funding structure, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is part of the independent arts scene. Exchange with colleagues, knowledge transfer, joint lobbying, and influencing cultural policy are crucial to the organization’s resilience. These efforts are more effective when undertaken collectively, which is why the orchestra joined FREO - the nationwide advocacy group for independent ensembles and orchestras - in 2025.

Since 1995, a group of friends has supported the work of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, thereby enabling the orchestra to make purchases, hold workshops, and establish the Voluntary Social Year position. Here, like-minded individuals, other former members, and new concert accompanists come together to find a space for inspiring exchange - all while closely accompanying a young, vibrant orchestra.
